Revelation 1: John sees Christ
John the Revelator is on the island of Patmos, when the Lord comes to him with a voice of a trumpet and commands him; “…What thou seest, write in a book, and send it unto the seven churches…” (Revelations 1:11) John explains that he saw; “…seven golden candlesticks; and in the midst of the candlesticks one line unto the Son of man, clothed with a garment down to the foot… with a golden girdle. His head and his hairs were white like wool, as white as the snow; and his eyes were as a flame of fire…his feet like unto fine brass… his voice as the sound of many waters.” (Revelations 1:13-15) Here John describes Jesus Christ as a man with white hair and a voice of many waters. This shows that we are made in God’s image and having been made in His image shows that God is not a Spirit, but also possesses a body of flesh and bones, the difference? His body is glorified and perfect, in other words it is immortal.
John is at first afraid of seeing God, but hears the voice of the Lord tell him to ‘fear not’. John encourages everyone to heed the writings of his book (Revelations) and to understand that the Second Coming of Jesus Christ is around the corner and we should be preparing now!
